ELECTRIC SOARING PAGEElectric models use a small electric motor and battery pack along with a folding propeller to launch them. The extra weight of these items increases the wing loading of the plane and decreases its' efficiency as a soarer, but for the lone flyer who doesn't want to drag out winch or bungee every time they are an excellent way of getting air time. Many of the models that are available as thermal soarers also have an electric powered variant. The Graphite form FVK is one such:
In some cases this carries as far as being able to buy 2 nosecones for the model. One for normal thermal soaring and competition and the other for electric motors.
NIMSA Electric Comp.8 Minute precision thermal flight. Points off for over and under time. 1 point per second. Points normalised for each round. More than 60 secs over = zero score. Time starts when motor is turned off. Motor time: 30 seconds for BRUSHLESS motors 60 seconds for BRUSHED motors
